Welcome to Finland

Welcome to Finland; the land of thousands of frozen lakes during the winter, midnight sun during the summer and high technology throughout the year!

Remember to bring warm clothes!

If you are new to our country, you might want to visit a few general information sites first. For example Virtual Finland is a huge collection of information including maps and even a chance to learn a few words of Finnish. Another site, Finnfacts, provides a more business oriented view of Finland.

The conference will be held in Saariselkä. Those participants staying longer my also enjoy a variety of available outdoor and indoor activities. For more information, see http://www.saariselka.fi/index.php?id=5&la=en

Airport

You should book your flight to Ivalo. Ivalo airport is located 25 km (16 miles) from Saariselkä. A bus departs from the airport after each Finnair flight. The route of the bus goes through Saariselkä, with a stop located right in front of Hotel Riekonlinna (€ 7). The bus service is coordinated with the flights such that in case of delay the bus waits for the arrival of the plane. Taxi from Ivalo airport to Hotel Riekonlinna costs € 35. Additionally, there are several rental car companies (Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Budget Rent, Scandia Rent) located at Ivalo airport.
